Here at Best Western Nottingham Derby, we love Christmas and even more so, we love Christmas events. Nottingham is a brilliant Christmas location, stacked full of unique activities and great experiences. To help make sure that you don’t miss out on anything, we’ve put together a must-see list that will serve as the perfect itinerary for your Christmas in Nottingham.

Nottingham Winter Wonderland

Nottingham’s famous Winter Wonderland opens on 15th of November in Old Market Square. With over 70 Bavarian style stalls, traditional rides and the UK’s biggest mobile ice bar, there’s plenty on offer for all ages and all dispositions.

The Wonderland also features live music, late night shopping, homemade foods and a ski-lodge-style bar. It’s one of the most popular Christmas markets in the country for a reason. You can’t miss it.

Ice Skating

Another feature within the Winter Wonderland that deserves special recognition is the 750m2 ice rink. Ice skating has always been a Christmas treasure from both a fun and romantic viewpoint, and Nottingham has the largest real ice rink in the East Midlands.

The pristine ice is so popular that organisers advise booking in advance to ensure you get your spot! Opening on the 15 November like the rest of the Winter Wonderland, this is a great way to spend a few festive hours.

The Gruffalo’s Child and Stick Man

This year, the film adaptation of The Gruffalo’s Child and Stick Man will receive special attention from the people of Nottingham. Hosted in the Royal Concert Hall Nottingham, the film will be screened with a live orchestral accompaniment composed by René Aubry and inspired by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler’s exceptionally popular children’s books.

This is a Christmas film with something a little special on top, making it great for the whole family. The film is only showing on the 23rd December, so be sure to book your tickets sooner rather than later.

Santa Paws

There are few things considered greater than dogs, so they simply must be included in your Christmas celebrations. After all, for many of us, the dog is a huge part of the family! Santa Paws is hosted at Wollaton Hall and Deer Park during the 15th and 16th December and invites all dog owners to bring their pets and visit Santa Paws. During the visit, dogs will receive treats from Santa Paws in his grotto, whilst owners will meet other Christmas lovers and bond with the local community.

All proceeds of the event go to Jerry Green Dog Rescue, a charity that provides shelter for homeless dogs and helps them find new homes.

Treat your dog and treat yourself at this wholesome and wonderfully fun event.

Peter Pan

And finally, you can’t get involved in Christmas events without seeing the annual Nottingham panto. This year, the Theatre Royal hosts infamous Joe Pasquale and a multi-talented cast in their production of the family adventure, Peter Pan. Including impressive flying effects, magic and the usual laughter, this 2018 panto is unmissable.

The show begins on 8th December and concludes on 13th January so there’s plenty of time to make sure you get a taste of this production.

With that, our list is done. Hopefully, this will help you make the most of your Christmas in Nottingham; be sure to book a room here at the Best Western Nottingham Derby so that you’re only a short distance away from the city centre.
